Need Office Storage Space? The Benefits of Self-Storage

A well-dressed man carrying a pile of documents

Businesses often need additional office storage solutions for excess inventory, materials, or equipment. Does your office look like this? If so, we can help.

This article is intended as a guide to help you decide if you need to rent a storage unit to free up office space and what types of self-storage units in Wichita, Kansas, might be available.

Take Advantage of Self-Storage to Expand Office Storage Space

In today's economy, businesses must find ways to save money and be more efficient. One way to do this is by using self-storage. Self-storage can be a great way for companies to store excess inventory, protect valuable assets, and organize their office space.

Here are some of the benefits of self-storage for businesses:

A simple and affordable way to keep excess items

Self-storage can provide businesses with a convenient and affordable way to expand their offices. Companies often use self-storage to store excess inventory, office supplies, archived documents, and seasonal decorations.

Self-storage providers offer a variety of unit sizes, and most facilities have 24-hour access to the units. These factors allow businesses to store their extra belongings without worrying about finding commercial storage space in their current location or home.

A more affordable way to move extra belongings

Self-storage is often much more affordable than hiring a moving company to move the extra belongings.

Self-storage providers offer a variety of unit sizes and prices, so businesses can find storage options that fit their needs.

Businesses looking for self-storage have a variety of unit sizes and prices to choose from, depending on their needs. A closet-sized unit might be enough for small businesses to store excess inventory or office supplies. Larger companies might need a unit the size of a garage to store equipment or products.

The cost of renting a business storage solution also varies depending on the size and location of the unit. Businesses should compare prices at different facilities to find the best deal. Some self-storage providers also offer discounts for long-term rentals. Note, though, that not all self-storage facilities in Wichita, KS, provide pricing options on their websites, so it is wise to call them and ask.

More amenities

Businesses can also take advantage of the amenities self-storage providers offer, such as climate-controlled units, drive-up access, and on-site security. Companies can use self-storage to store excess inventory, office supplies, or documents.

A great way to declutter and increase office storage space

Self-storage is an excellent way for businesses to free up space in their office or warehouse. A company can keep its office or warehouse organized and clutter-free by storing extra inventory, office equipment, or documents using self-storage. Additionally, self-storage is a great way to protect valuable items from damage or theft.

Self-Storage Size Guide: How Many Square Feet Do I Need?

When it comes to self-storage, size matters. How do you determine the size unit you require? The best way to select the right size is to calculate the total square feet you'll need.

To calculate, start by measuring the length and width of the items you plan to store. Multiply these numbers together to get the total square feet. For example, if you have a 10' x 10' extra storage space and want to store furniture, boxes, and other household items, your total square feet would be 100. Then don't forget you always have the additional space for stacking up if you'd like.

Keep in mind that not all items are stored equally. Furniture takes up more space than boxes, for example. So, consider that when calculating your total square footage if you're storing various items.

Factors to Consider When Selecting a Self-Storage Facility

There are a few factors you should consider before selecting a self-storage facility. Cost is one of those considerations, but it's not the only one. Here are some other things to consider:

  • Location - How close to your home or office is the storage facility? Is it accessible during regular business hours? Choosing a facility near you will always be an advantage since you won't have to travel far to get there.
  • Size of Unit - If you only store a few items, you may not need a large unit. On the other hand, if you're storing furniture or appliances, you'll need a unit that's at least the size of your belongings. To help you decide, consider the 5 Most Popular Self-Storage Sizes we offer at South Rock Storage facility.
  • Security - Does the storage facility have security cameras and a gated entrance? Knowing your facility monitors access to units at all times is essential.
  • Climate Control - If you're storing items that could be damaged by extreme temperatures or humidity, you'll want to find a storage facility with climate control. A climate control unit can maintain a relatively constant temperature and humidity.
  • Quick Access- Is there an accessible entrance that allows you to pull up directly into the storage area?

Final Thoughts

Self-storage is a convenient and affordable way for businesses to store excess belongings. By using self-storage, companies can keep their office and workspace clutter-free, improving efficiency and productivity.

Additionally, self-storage is an excellent option for businesses that are in the process of moving or downsizing if you are considering self-storage, research and choose a facility that meets your needs.

6 Common Boat Storage Options for Small Spaces + Pros and Cons

Your boat is a major investment, so you need to protect it. Here are 6 common storage options for small spaces.

When you have a boat, you need to find a storage option for it. You can store it in your backyard, but that may not be the best idea if you live in a cold climate. You can also store it in a marina, which can get expensive. You can also keep it at a facility, which is the cheapest option. You need to ensure the facility is secure and has good insurance. This article describes the various boat storage options you have, as well as storage tips and what to look for in a storage facility in Wichita, Kansas. In Water Boat StorageMany people overlook the benefits of storing their boats in water when looking for boat storage options. Here are some reasons why you might want to consider a water boat storage:Security. Storage options that are located on or near water tend to be more secure than those found on land. This is because they are more challenging for thieves to get to, and they are also easier to monitor.Accessibility. Boat owners can easily access boats stored in water, regardless of the time of year.Convenience. When it comes time to take your boat out for a spin, you won't have to worry about loading it onto a boat trailer and driving it to the lake or river.Storing Your Boat in a Marina SlipWhen you are looking for a place to store your boat, you may want to consider a marina slip. This is an in-water storage option that can provide many benefits. Here are some things to think about when deciding if this is the right choice for you:Marina slips provide easy access to your boat. Simply step on board and go! You don't have to worry about getting it out of the water or loading it on a trailer.In-water storage isn't the best way to protect your boat from the elements. Not only will your boat be exposed to the weather and elements, but keeping a boat perpetually in the water can cause deterioration and damage.A marina wet slip offers security for your boat. You can feel confident knowing that it is safe and protected from theft or vandalism.Dry Outdoor Boat StorageDry boat storage is an excellent choice if you want to keep your boat in good condition and avoid having to clean it every time you use it.Dry outdoor storage facilities are typically fenced-in and have security cameras, which can give you peace of mind when your boat is not in use.The downside of dry storage is that it can be less convenient than marina storage when you want to go for a ride in your boat, especially if you live in a climate where the winters are cold. You also have to factor in the cost of transportation to and from the location, which can be a hassle if you live far away. Another option is dry indoor storage, which can be more expensive, but first, let's explore common dry outdoor options.Parking Your Boat on a Trailer at HomeBoaters often struggle with where to store their boats. Many people have garages, but they are not always large enough to hold a boat. The best option is to find a dry outdoor storage area somewhere on your property. If you have the space on your property, boat trailer storage could be an option for you. You can park your boat on the boat trailer and store it in your backyard or other ample space. When parking your boat on a trailer, make sure that the trailer is level. You can use wood blocks to raise the trailer's front or rear if necessary. It is also vital to ensure that the boat is tied down securely. You can use ratchet straps or ropes to do this.If you are storing your boat on a boat lift or trailer outdoors, it is essential to cover it with a tarp or other coverings. This will protect it from the weather and from UV rays.Outdoor Boat Storage at a Self Storage FacilityWhen you have a boat, there are a lot of things that you need to do in order to keep it in good condition. One of the most important is making sure that it is stored in a place where it will stay dry. If you don't have a place to store your boat at home, you may want to consider self-storage.Self-storage facilities offer a variety of different types of storage units, including ones that are specifically designed for boats. These slots are typically located outside, which means they can accommodate a large variety of watercraft sizes. Many self-storage facilities, like South Rock Storage, have security cameras and gates, which can help keep your boat safe from theft or damage. We also have a helpful guide to help prepare your boat for storage with us.If you're looking for a storage unit at a self-storage location that can house your boat, be sure to check out the options available at self-storage facilities in your area. If you're in Witchita, KS, look no further than South Rock Storage!Dry Indoor Boat StorageIf you are looking for an alternative to storing your boat in the water, or if you just don't have access to a body of water large enough for your boat, you may want to consider dry indoor boat storage. This covered boat storage is an excellent option for boats that are not in use for long periods of time or if you live in a climate where leaving a boat in the water is not an option.Benefits of dry indoor boat storage optionsThere are several benefits to choosing dry indoor boat storage.Your boat will be protected from the elements. This is especially important if you live in a climate where there is snow and ice during the winter months.Your boat will be safe from harmful UV rays, which can damage the exterior of your boat over time.By storing your boat indoors, you can extend its life by protecting it from corrosion and rust.Dry Stacked StorageDry stack storage is a unique and popular way to store boats, cars, and other large items outdoors. The name comes from how the items are stored–stacked on top of each other, utilizing the height space of the building. While this storage method maximizes the usage of space, it is often times very costly. Boaters will usually need to give staff significant advance notice of boat usage as well so that they can use their heavy lifting equipment to extract your boat and place it in the water or on a trailer. The other disadvantage is that you will not have complete access to your craft every day and night.Your Home GarageThe garage is often one of the most overlooked spaces in the home. It can be used for a variety of purposes, such as storage, parking, and working on projects. Regarding boat storage, a garage is an excellent option for those with the space. There are a few things to consider when using the garage for boat storage.Make sure that the garage is large enough to store the boat.Check to see if there is an electrical outlet in the garage so you can power up any equipment you need to work on the boat.Make sure that the garage is well-ventilated so that any fumes from gasoline or other chemicals will dissipate quickly.Using it for boat storage is an excellent option if you have enough space in your garage and it meets these requirements.Indoor Boat Storage at a Self Storage FacilityIf you're like many boat enthusiasts, you probably don't want to leave your vessel outdoors where it can be damaged by the elements–especially when it comes to winter storage. That's why an increasing number of boat owners are taking advantage of a storage unit at a self-storage facility. An indoor self-storage facility offers a variety of benefits when it comes to storing boats. For starters, they provide a dry and secure environment, which is vital for keeping your boat in good condition. They also typically have wide aisles and ample space, so you won't have to worry about running into other boats or obstacles. Additionally, most self-storage facilities offer 24-hour access, so you can come and go as you please. If you're looking for indoor boat storage and your boat is small enough to fit, be sure to check out the options at your local facility.Jet Ski and Small Watercraft storageWhen it comes to storing jet skis or small watercraft, you have a few different storage solutions. You can store it in your garage, you can store it in a facility, or you can store it in your backyard.Storing in your garage is probably the easiest option, but it's not always the best option. If you don't have a lot of space in your garage, then you may not be able to fit your small watercraft inside.Another option is to store them at a facility. Boat storage facilities offer indoor and outdoor storage options, and they usually have security cameras and alarm systems to keep your small watercraft safe. The last option is to store your small watercraft in your backyard.Advantages of self-storage options at South Rock StorageWhen it comes time to store your boat, many people don't know where to turn. Sorry, You Can't Live in a Storage Unit...and Other Prohibited Items

You can't live in a storage unit as it differs from an apartment. Here's also a list of common prohibited items in storage units.

No, you can't live in a storage unit. This is probably the most common rule, and for a good reason. Self-storage is a great way to store your belongings and essential moving supplies when you don't have the space. It is not meant for human habitation. That's just one of the many items prohibited by most self-storage providers. While each facility has its own list of prohibited items to protect its clients' safety and security, some general rules apply to all. Hence, when selecting a facility, it is crucial to be aware of the list of commonly prohibited items, which may be a deal breaker for some people. This article will discuss commonly prohibited and limited things at a storage facility. Why You Can't Live in a Storage UnitSome people think they can live in a storage unit, but this is not the case. You cannot live in one mainly because they are not designed for residential purposes. There is no running water, no kitchen, and no bathroom. While some people may try to make it work, it is not ideal. These facilities are typically designed for long and short-term storage, meaning people will store their belongings for a while. Such an environment is not conducive for living, as you need a place where you can stay with acceptable living conditions.Additionally, these facilities are often closed off from the public, meaning that you would not have access to the same amenities that you would if you were living in a traditional apartment complex, home, or other legal housing option. You can't live in a storage unit. Same with your petsMany self-storage providers do not allow pets, and those that do allow pets have restrictions on the size and type of pet that can be stored.Pets are prohibited for a variety of reasons. The most common reason is that pets can damage property. They can scratch or bite the furniture, walls, and doors in the storage unit.Pets can also track in mud and dirt, damaging the storage unit's flooring. Some facilities also have rules against leaving food out and attracting pests like rats and cockroaches. Some facilities are in shared residential areas, and landlords do not want tenants with pets because they may cause noise or odor issues.Things to Avoid for Self StorageBelow are some items people mistakenly believe they can store in a self-storage unit. While some places, including South Rock, allow for the storage of some of these items, there may be restrictions.Hazardous MaterialsSelf-storage providers prohibit dangerous materials to protect their customers, employees, and the general public. Self-storage units are not designed to store hazardous materials like gasoline, oil, or pesticides. They are a closed environment, which can be dangerous if hazardous materials are present. For example, if a fire started in a storage unit with hazardous materials, the smoke from the fire could be toxic, and everyone in the vicinity could be harmed. Many facilities are located near residential neighborhoods, so it is essential to keep any potential dangers away from these areas.ChemicalsSome types of chemicals can damage the contents of a storage unit, and in some cases, it isn't even possible to store them. This includes bleach, gasoline, and other flammable or poisonous liquids.Chemicals are prohibited because they can corrode and damage the property stored in the facility.Chemicals can also be harmful to people and cause respiratory problems. To protect the safety of their tenants, facilities prohibit the storage of many chemicals.PerishablesSelf-storage is not the best place to store perishable items like food, beverages, and flowers. These items can become spoiled in a very short time, and the unit may never be able to be rented out again. There are a few reasons why most facilities prohibit perishables. The first reason is that it's challenging to keep track of what's in each unit when food items are present. The second reason is that food can attract insects and rodents and infest the entire facility. Many facilities have rules against storing perishable and unpackaged food to keep their units clean and pest-free.Batteries and Electrical ItemsIf you're looking for a safe place to store your belongings, a non-climate-controlled facility is not the place for batteries or electrical items. Some facilities don't allow these items due to their fire hazards. Not only could a battery start a fire, but it can also release harmful fumes that can be dangerous to both you and the other tenants in the facility.Battery-operated devices like video game systems, computers, tablets, and cell phones can also create a fire hazard. If one of these items were to malfunction or become damaged, it could quickly start a fire. Because of this fire hazard, many electronics and battery-operated devices should be stored in climate-controlled units, no matter their size.AppliancesSome units may allow the storage of appliances such as stoves, microwaves, and refrigerators. However, all appliances must be checked with the facility to ensure they are safe to store. In general, most facilities have restrictions or rules on appliances because they can create a fire hazard. Some appliances contain oil or gas that can easily ignite, leading to a dangerous fire. Many appliances take up a lot of space and can be challenging to move, which can cause problems for other tenants in the storage facility. Some appliances can also damage the property in the storage unit. Aside from cases where appliances have caused fires in these facilities, there is also the potential for water damage if a refrigerator leaks or a washing machine overflows.Illegal Weapons and SubstancesThe reasoning behind this rule is simple: self-storage businesses are a public place, and as such, illegal weapons and drugs cannot be stored on their property. In addition, by prohibiting these items, the facilities can help protect their customers and employees from potential harm. While it may be inconvenient to leave illegal weapons or substances at home, it is essential to remember that the safety of everyone involved is at stake. So if you're looking for somewhere to store your belongings, make sure you check the list of prohibited items first.Types of Self-Storage UnitsThere are many different types to choose from. You can rent storage space by the month or year, and there are many different sizes of units to choose from. The most common type is a traditional self-storage unit, a room or garage-sized unit you can rent by the month. These units are typically climate controlled, meaning they are kept at a steady temperature and humidity level to protect your belongings.Other popular types include:Vehicle StorageVehicle storage can be a great solution when you need to free up your garage or driveway space. Self-storage facilities offer indoor and outdoor parking spaces perfect for storing cars, trucks, motorcycles, boats, RVs, and other vehicles. You can typically rent a space by the month or year, and many facilities offer discounts for longer-term rentals. When choosing a self-storage facility for vehicle storage, be sure to ask about security features like locked gates and security cameras. You'll also want to ensure the facility is well-lit and has easy access so you can get to your car when needed. If you're looking for a climate-controlled environment, be sure to ask about the temperature and humidity levels in the facility's parking spaces.Vehicle storage can be a great way to keep your car safe and secure while freeing up space in your home or garage.Climate-controlled storage unitsThese units may be smaller than some of the larger traditional self-storage units available, but they offer all the benefits of climate control. They're perfect for storing documents, furniture, or any other items that need to be kept in a controlled environment.Final ThoughtsWhile storage units can be a convenient and affordable option for short-term storage, they are not suitable for long-term living. The lack of privacy, space, and amenities can make living in a storage unit uncomfortable and impractical.
